Are your meetings productive?

Are your meetings productive?

Most of us have meetings with either team members, customers or suppliers on a weekly if not daily basis. How productive are these meetings? What are the real reasons for them and do you actually get value from them?   The key to productive meetings is having a clear agenda as well as giving everyone involved in the meetings a chance to voice their opinions and contribute. Do you have a weekly team or management meeting with staff that seems like a waste of time rather than having key objectives that you are trying to achieve? Here are a few key suggestions for regular meetings: Set the meeting agenda beforehand being clear in what you are wanting to discuss Discuss the desired outcomes from each agenda item, (even to the point of giving times for each agenda item is a great way to ensure the time does not get away from you) Allocate tasks/jobs/research to each person attending and give specific dates and expectations for completion Have time for open discussion about other items that may have come up during the week   If you have clear meeting guidelines and outcomes each meeting will be productive and you will find that your staff/customers and suppliers will know their expected part to play. The more constructive meetings are the more outcomes you will achieve and the happier you will be in regard to time management with your staff. If you would like to know how you stop a person from hijacking a meeting? Take things offline, park the discussion until a further time, take the meeting outside the larger group and then come back. Make sure meetings don’t just become regular update meetings but that they still add value to the business as a whole, this way people will feel more involved and will work effectively to achieve the goals of the meeting.
